Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is one of the components of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. Ayushman Bharat Scheme is designed with the vision of Universal Health Coverage. Thus, its motto, “Leave no one behind”. It is an attempt to move from a sectoral and segmented approach of health service delivery to a comprehensive need-based health care service. This scheme aims to undertake path-breaking interventions to holistically address the healthcare system (covering prevention, promotion, and ambulatory care) at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
PM-JAY is the second component of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. It is the largest health assurance scheme in the world. It is fully funded by the Government and the cost of implementation is shared between the Central and State Governments. Its aim is to provide a health cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to over 10.74 crores of poor and vulnerable families.
Its vision for the next five years is to ensure financial protection against catastrophic health expenditure and access to affordable and quality healthcare for all. Its mission for the next five years is to create the world’s best health assurance program on an efficient and technologically robust ecosystem.

Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
The benefits of this scheme are as follows:
- Fully financed by Government.
- A cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization across public and private empanelled hospitals in India is provided.
- Provides cashless access to health care services for the beneficiary.
- Covers up to 3 days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days post-hospitalization expenses.
- All pre–existing conditions are covered from day one.
- A beneficiary can visit any empanelled public or private hospital in India to avail cashless treatment.
Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana Eligibility Criteria
People belonging to poor and vulnerable families, living in both, urban and rural areas who are included in the deprivation and occupational criteria of Socio-Economic Caste Census 2011 (SECC2011) are eligible for PM-JAY. Families that were covered in Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) but are not present in the SECC 2011 database are also eligible for this scheme.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana Registration Status
There is no separate Application Process to apply for this scheme. It automatically applies to all eligible beneficiaries. A database has been created by the Government itself for the same. Anyone can check whether or they are eligible by following the below-mentioned steps:
- Visit the official website (https://pmjay.gov.in/).
- Click on “Menu” and then click on “Am I Eligible” under the “Portals” section.
- You’ll be re-directed to a new page. Enter your mobile number and the captcha code and click on “Generate OTP”.
- Fill in the OTP.
- Select your state and search by Name/ Mobile number/ Ration card Number/ HHD.
- The search result will verify the coverage of your family.
